These 15 young journalists have all been shortlisted because of the considerable impact they have made in the journalism sector. The One Young World Journalist of the Year Award recognises five of the world's most outstanding journalists between the ages of 18 - 35, who are using their stories to have a positive impact on people in their communities and countries. Through their courageous work, these candidates highlight the importance having diverse voices in media.

Excellence In Reporting Women’s Issues - Global, 2021
Issued by Society of Publishers in Asia-Pacific in 2021. Won top prize for reporting on the Philippine drug war’s impact on women, for the piece “When They Killed Our Men”.
Judge’s comment: “Powerful storytelling and research. A detailed and important piece of journalism which showed the impact on women of the people left behind by Duterte's violent anti-drug war. A lot of work went into tracking down the relatives and piecing together their stories. Shines a spotlight on what is going on in the Philippines today and the struggles of its poor population with the women bearing alot of the burden. A disturbing, important piece of painstaking journalism well told.”

Human Rights Press Awards 2021: Merit for Multimedia Reporting
"Land Defenders Are Killed in the Philippines for Protesting Canadian Mining" received a merit award for multimedia reporting, issued by The Foreign Correspondents' Club Hong Kong; The Hong Kong Journalists Association; and Amnesty International Hong Kong in May 2021.
In its 25th year, the HRPA is Asia’s most prestigious celebration of journalism that raises awareness of human rights issues and shines a light on threats to freedom. There were a record 549 submissions in all formats, up by 12.5% compared to 2020. -

Asian Digital Media Awards 2018: Best Use of Online Video
Won top award for "Marawi in 360", the first war documentary in Asia shot completely in virtual reality. The two-part hosted video series covered the Marawi siege in the Southern Philippines, a five-month conflict between the Philippine military and ISIS fighters.

Honorable Mention for Reporting on Women's Issues - Regional, 2018
Issued by Society of Publishers in Asia in 2018. Won award for multimedia piece titled: “Rape within the family: The Philippines’ silent incest problem.”
Judge’s comment: “This story is powerfully moving, exposing a horrifying social problem and providing a sharp analysis of the factors behind it. The narrative of the three sisters is very well written and told with great sensitivity and balance.” -
